Beyond Grief: A Comprehensive Approach to Mental Health Recovery and Successful Return-to-Work Integration

This case study outlines the journey of an employee, who grappled with grief-related dysthymia and recurring suicidal ideation, coupled with a history of similar mental health struggles. The study details the challenges faced, including medication adjustments, counseling, and the utilization of a comprehensive Return-to-Work Reintegration (RTWR) plan, leading to Maintenance of Return to Work (MRTW) for 10 days and a successful RTWR spanning 61 days.

The Employee struggled with grief-induced dysthymia and recurring suicidal ideation, which were compounded by a history of similar mental health issues. Despite initial medication prescribed by a Nurse Practitioner (NP), poor results prompted a medication change after four weeks, with uncertainties regarding the employee’s Return-to-Work (RTW) timeline.

The adjustment to the second medication brought about noticeable improvements in the employee's mental health. With active participation in counseling and a focused RTWR plan, the The Employee achieved Maintenance of Return to Work (MRTW) for 10 days and a successful RTWR spanning 61 days, showcasing substantial progress in their recovery journey and work reintegration.
